A year long academic elective that combines academic rigor and academic support to allow AVID student reach their academic potential. AVID provides academic support, motivational activities and academic instruction through WICOR strategies and collaborative groups.
AVID instruction focuses on WICOR. WICOR stands for Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading, which are the core instructional strategies designed to develop students' critical thinking and academic skills. Writing enhances students' ability to communicate and clarify ideas; Inquiry encourages questioning and deeper thinking to explore complex topics; Collaboration fosters teamwork and learning through peer interaction; Organization helps students manage their time and materials effectively; and Reading strengthens comprehension and analytical skills. Together, WICOR strategies are used to engage students actively, preparing them for rigorous coursework and college readiness.
